Senior Data Engineer

Vital IT Services is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to architect, build, and optimize secure, high-performance data pipelines and storage solutions. This role supports customer-facing planning by evaluating business needs and contributing to reporting and dashboard delivery in collaboration with BI teams from design through deployment.

Compensation

USD 110,000 - 130,000 per year

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data infrastructure and automated pipelines for secure ingestion, transformation, and high-volume data movement.
• Define and optimize data models, including relational and non-relational database structures, to support reporting and operational applications.
• Optimize query performance through data warehousing principles, schema evolution, and index optimization.
• Monitor and validate data flows to ensure complete accuracy, quality, and compliance.
• Map and resolve data dependencies across external APIs, legacy databases, and cloud infrastructure, translating data unknowns into structured execution plans.
• Collaborate with data and development teams to support accurate task estimating, technical documentation, and delivery data updates.

Requirements

• 5+ years of dedicated data engineering experience with large-scale production databases and high-compliance distributed data environments.
• Proven ability to build complex data pipelines using heavy orchestration tools and extract data from complex third-party API networks.
• Expertise in SQL and NoSQL query tuning, data warehousing principles, schema evolution, and index optimization.
• Hands-on experience with cloud data storage architectures (e.g., AWS, Azure) and modern data pipeline practices.
• Track record of debugging mismatched data architectures, addressing breaking schema changes, and improving performance of slow, multi-system jobs.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in data engineering, analytics, or reporting roles
• At least 3 years of Business Intelligence experience is preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, or other quantitative degrees is preferred
• Strong knowledge of SQL, SSRS, MS Excel, Power BI, Oracle, Tableau, and other Business Intelligence tools
• Knowledge and experience across different data sources, including MS SQL, Excel files, Azure SQL, Azure Cosmos DB, AS400, DB2, and cloud data sources
• Deep understanding of SQL databases and query language
• Advanced Excel skills
• Familiarity with data storage, retrieval, and manipulation methods for both relational and non-relational database architectures
• Commercial (P&C) Insurance industry knowledge is a plus

• Ensure >=90% of mid-level escalation requests are actively responded to within 30 minutes and fully unblocked within 1 business day
• Maintain 100% weekly compliance on task logging, estimation, and database schema documentation in Confluence
