Job Description
Collectors is hiring a hands-on Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and operate data platform pipelines and foundations for analytics, reporting, and AI agent workflows.
Responsibilities
- Build and own core data platform components across ingestion tools (Hevo, Estuary), the Google BigQuery warehouse, and the dbt transformation layer
- Shape platform evolution by contributing to architecture, writing design docs, and participating in design reviews with senior technical leaders
- Design and maintain batch and CDC ingestion pipelines for operational databases, SaaS applications, and ERP systems
- Evaluate ingestion and platform tooling with clear trade-off reasoning for buy vs. build
- Develop end-to-end with AI coding agents, using Claude Code and similar tools daily
- Improve reliability and observability by implementing testing, monitoring, alerting, and on-call practices so data is timely and failures are detected early
- Implement governance and operational controls, including access models, auditability, and data safeguards for datasets and pipelines you own
- Build foundations for agentic analytics with well-modeled, well-governed data that agents and MCP connections can trust for accurate answers
- Engineer tooling and services beyond the warehouse by building APIs, automated jobs, and internal tools in Python to expand data access beyond SQL
- Mentor engineers through thoughtful code review, pairing, and knowledge sharing to raise consistency and quality
- Explore warehouse next steps via hands-on POCs on lakehouse patterns, open table formats, and alternative query engines
Requirements
- 5+ years building production data platforms and pipelines, with a track record of independently owning and delivering complex projects
- Strong hands-on data stack experience, including cloud data warehousing (BigQuery or equivalent), dbt, and modern ingestion tooling
- Ability to weigh platform decisions and clearly explain design trade-offs in writing and in person
- Practical experience developing with Claude Code or a similar coding agent, treating it as a core engineering practice
- Reliability-focused mindset with experience implementing testing, observability, and operating practices
- Governance-aware approach to access controls, auditability, and data-quality safeguards
- Collaboration skills, including mentoring and knowledge sharing through code review
- Technical fluency and communication strength: SQL and Python, comfortable with version control, CI/CD, and testing; able to explain work to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Comfort working with cloud infrastructure, including serverless compute, storage, and secrets on GCP or AWS
- Curiosity about the evolving data stack, including lakehouse patterns and query engines, with interest in testing ideas hands-on
