Job Description

Bloomberg seeks a Senior Data Management Professional – Analytics Engineer to join its Data Management Operations BI team in Princeton, on site. The role centers on shaping analytical data foundations, advancing FRDs, and delivering scalable analytics, dashboards, and reusable data products to enable self-service insights. The position offers a yearly salary range of USD 110,000 to 190,000 and requires a minimum of four years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and evolve Foundational Reporting Datasets (FRDs) that underpin reporting and analysis efforts.
  • Craft and optimize SQL queries to clean, shape, and model real-world, noisy data into performant, reusable datasets.
  • Create modular, version-controlled SQL and PySpark code, and establish CI/CD processes with automated data testing to ensure reliable pipelines.
  • Design storage layouts, partitioning schemes, and high-concurrency serving patterns, such as a single wide table, for BI consumers.
  • Implement robust source validation, data profiling, and observability checks to establish high data trust with stakeholders.
  • Balance tradeoffs among correctness, scope, performance, and documentation, while understanding data semantics and grain.
  • Collaborate with domain experts and stakeholders to learn how data is produced, interpreted, and used.
  • Develop domain intuition over time to understand why data behaves as it does, not solely how it is structured.
  • Represent data accurately in cross-functional discussions and decisions.
  • Identify analytical work suitable for formalization into reusable data products.
  • Define boundaries between foundational datasets and decision-specific, reusable data products.
  • Partner with Product Managers to assess roadmap feasibility and work with Software Engineers to influence upstream tooling and architecture decisions.
  • Collaborate with engineers on performance, tooling, and modeling decisions while maintaining focus on the data layer.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience as a BI analyst, analytics engineer, or a related data-focused role.
  • Proven ability to transform messy, ambiguous data into trusted analytical assets.
  • Comfort operating under ambiguity and delivering incremental improvements.
  • Strong collaboration skills and a genuine interest in mastering a data domain.
  • Ability to translate semi-structured producer data into stable analytical schemas (OLTP to OLAP).
  • SQL-based data modeling expertise.
  • Experience with PySpark and Pandas or Polars.
  • Analytical dataset design capabilities.
  • Considerations for performance and efficiency in data solutions.
  • Storage and layout optimization for analytical tables.
  • Designing for schema evolution and update paths.
