Senior Field Engineer
Job Description
Clark Construction Group is seeking a Senior Field Engineer for an onsite role in Atlanta, GA. In this position, you will apply technical surveying and engineering knowledge to keep site controls accurate, support grading and layout, and coordinate field execution with drawings and real-world conditions.
What you will do
- Establish project Horizontal Control, verify the accuracy of consultant-provided control, and set working control points
- Continuously check and maintain horizontal control
- Establish project Vertical Control, establish working benchmarks from provided control, and continuously check and maintain vertical control
- Check optical plummet and visually inspect instruments for evidence of damage or mis-adjustment
- Check and set temperature and pressure correction in a Total Station and check and calibrate instrument collimation
- Run and adjust a three-wire level loop, compute tangent grades, and plot cross-sections to determine earthwork
- Apply field skills for fine grading operations, including temperature corrections when chaining
- Provide layout from drawings without assistance
- Coordinate between drawings and discern potential conflicts
- Compute and track concrete during pour
Surveying, instrumentation, and field support
Maintain readiness and measurement quality through routine instrument checks and calibration. Support grading and layout by working with contour maps, temperature/pressure corrections, and established horizontal and vertical control.

Requirements
- Able to make temperature corrections when chaining
- Basic ability to read and understand Structural / Architectural / Shop Drawings
- Able to provide layout from drawings without assistance and coordinate between drawings to discern potential conflicts
- Proficient in the use of scales
- Able to layout footings, columns, and building lines with no assistance
- Able to establish vertical dimensions from given finish floor elevations
- Able to compute concrete quantities for daily pours, slabs, columns, etc.
- Able to conduct fine grading operations, including leveling deck and grading columns with no assistance
- Able to establish secondary benchmarks and secondary horizontal and vertical control (such as column lines and offsets)
- Proficient in simple math, geometry, and trigonometry
- Able to figure deflection angles and solve curves
- Proficient in computation of rectangular and polar coordinates
- Able to check optical plummet and visually check instruments for damage or mis-adjustment
- Able to check and set temperature and pressure correction in a Total Station and check and calibrate instrument collimation
- Able to run and adjust three-wire level loop, compute tangent grades, and plot cross-sections to determine earthwork
- Familiar with and able to read a contour map
