Job Description

Terracon is seeking a Senior level Geotechnical Project Engineer to support its Colorado Springs team, delivering engineering and consulting services across a wide range of geotechnical projects.

Compensation

USD 119,600 - 146,190 per year

Role Summary

The position provides senior technical leadership for routine and complex geotechnical projects. The role spans field investigations, engineering analysis, design and specifications, observation and inspection, reporting, proposal development, and technical direction. The Senior level engineer also supports technical training, informed decision-making on technology issues, and mentorship of junior staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and model team safety efforts, ensuring adherence to safety rules and guidelines, including pre-task planning for all projects.
  • Manage continuous quality monitoring and improvement by promoting quality standards and practices across projects.
  • Deliver consistent quality standards across project execution and proposal delivery.
  • Understand project-related risk and how to protect the Company, including familiarity with company risk policies.
  • Provide senior-level engineering technical direction for both routine and unique or complex projects.
  • Conceptualize the initial design and/or investigative approach for a major phase of a large project, or provide overall engineering responsibility for a moderate-scope project.
  • Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate engineering work using conventional practices while managing complex features such as conflicting design requirements.
  • Review projects involving complex and innovative investigation techniques and supervise analysis and recommendation development in client reports.
  • Provide technical review of reports.
  • Lead technical training and make informed decisions regarding state-of-the-art technology issues.
  • Provide leadership support for marketing, sales, and business development.
  • Supervise support personnel on projects.
  • Mentor and provide technical support to junior level staff.
  • Serve as a Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer (required).

General Duties

  • Provide engineering and consulting services to a broad array of projects and clients.
  • Perform and/or lead field investigations, engineering analysis, calculations, and recommendations.
  • Develop plans and specifications.
  • Conduct observation and inspection activities.
  • Write, prepare, and review reports related to services delivered.
  • Review drawings and construction activities to support compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Prepare proposals and cost estimates, track and evaluate project progress, monitor budgets, and recommend changes.
  • Research and help resolve design and construction problems.
  • Assign, review, and evaluate laboratory or field data for inclusion in reports.
  • Apply sound engineering principles and communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams.

Industry Scope

Services may be provided for existing or proposed projects in multiple sectors, including public works, transportation, commercial, communications, energy, and industrial.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration
  • Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering (preferred)
