Senior Software Engineer at Ambarella in Ohio, focused on standards-based real-time hardware video codecs for AI-enabled camera silicon.
Responsibilities
- Lead development and optimization of video codec algorithms targeting video quality, latency reduction, and hardware efficiency
- Design and implement reference codec models and performance improvements
- Drive hardware/software co-design and contribute to silicon architecture modeling
- Develop advanced diagnostics and verification tools to support silicon validation
- Architect and optimize real-time embedded firmware solutions
- Lead and optimize software rate control design activities
- Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers on codec development projects
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define future video codec capabilities and related requirements
Requirements
- 5+ years of relevant experience
- Expert-level C and C++ programming skills
- Strong experience in embedded software development
- Familiarity with video compression standards such as H.264, H.265/HEVC, AV1, or similar
- Experience with codec optimization, performance analysis, and system-level debugging
- Ability to lead technical projects and mentor team members
- Experience using AI-powered software development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude) to improve productivity and code quality
