General Dynamics Mission Systems, Inc. builds mission-critical software supporting U.S. Navy submarine and surface platforms, and this senior role centers on the engineering work required to develop, integrate, and deliver complex capabilities. As a senior individual contributor, you will take ownership of substantial software components and tackle difficult integration problems while contributing across architecture, design, implementation, and testing.
Role overview
You will design, develop, and maintain complex software using C++, Qt, Java, and Python. The position is hands-on with no personnel-management responsibility, focused instead on owning components from early requirements through integration and deployment. Work includes development of distributed interfaces and the debugging and resolution of issues spanning concurrency, performance, networking, data handling, and system integration.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain complex software using C++, Qt, Java, and Python
- Own software components from requirements and architecture through integration and deployment
- Develop distributed interfaces using APIs, AMQP, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and event-driven architectures
- Make well-supported design decisions within assigned components and subsystems
- Integrate COTS, open-source, and custom-developed software
- Diagnose complex problems involving concurrency, performance, networking, data, and system integration
- Develop applications for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and containerized environments
- Support deployments using Docker, Podman, Kubernetes or RKE2, and Helm
- Define effective unit, component, and integration tests
- Perform detailed code and design reviews and provide technical mentoring
- Communicate technical risks, findings, and recommendations to engineering and program stakeholders
- Support laboratory and Navy platform integration activities
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or related STEM field with minimum 8 years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree with 6 years of relevant experience
- Department of Defense Secret security clearance required at time of hire
- U.S. citizenship required
