Senior Software Engineer

Visa Technology and Operations LLC is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and continuously improve software applications and systems in the fintech domain. This hybrid role in Foster City, CA focuses on hands-on development, cross-functional collaboration, and applying security and regulatory best practices across the software lifecycle.

In this position, you will contribute to system design and architecture, write and maintain production code, support testing and debugging, and participate in on-call rotations to troubleshoot and deploy fixes under guidance.

What you’ll do

• Collaborate with stakeholders to interpret requirements for project components and incorporate feedback into designs and solution fixes.
• Translate business requirements by verifying assumptions and escalating potential design issues to the appropriate stakeholders.
• Participate in system design and architecture, refining code plans and contributing to design documentation.
• Assist with project estimation and escalate issues that may cause delays.
• Develop, implement, and maintain code for products, services, or components using established coding patterns, guidelines, and best practices.
• Use debugging tools to validate assumptions and proactively flag issues.
• Participate in code reviews to help ensure coding standards are followed and address routine pull requests.
• Create test plans and configure testing procedures to identify and resolve defects across multiple features.
• Respond to support requests during on-call rotations by troubleshooting issues and deploying fixes under guidance.
• Leverage and build knowledge of software developer tools to create, debug, and maintain code for components.
• Stay current through training resources that support product availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance.

What you’ll bring

• 2+ years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or an Advanced Degree (for example, Masters, MBA, JD, MD, or PhD).
• Either 3+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 5+ years of relevant work experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java and/or Python and Angular/React.
• Experience with microservices, REST APIs, Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD.
• Experience developing full stack solutions (frontend and backend) and/or implementing web-based or mobile applications using AI tools.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Experience in technologies/software systems or a directly related field.
• Experience delivering enterprise-scale web services in large-scale product development, including strong debugging, troubleshooting, code reviews, coding standards, and building developer tools using modern container-based technologies.
• Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional and client-facing teams to design, develop, test, and support scalable technical solutions that drive business outcomes.
• Compliance experience is a plus.
• Experience with Generative AI (GenAI), including LLM agents, RAG systems, NLP, and AI-assisted investigations.

• Estimated salary range: $123,000 - $190,900 USD per year.
