Senior Software Engineer - AI Trainer

AfterQuery Experts is a research lab exploring the boundaries of artificial intelligence through novel datasets and experimentation. As a Senior Software Engineer - AI Trainer, you will help create and assess the backend-oriented scenarios that frontier AI labs use to train and evaluate model judgment.

This role is fully remote and asynchronous, with work designed to fit an engineer’s own schedule. You will focus on building realistic software engineering tasks, then evaluating responses for correctness and subtle failure modes, with clear documentation to support auditability.

Role Focus

• Build and evaluate backend services, data modeling, and API design scenarios that reflect real production engineering practice
• Assess model outputs for correctness, sound reasoning, and subtle failure modes
• Provide detailed, clearly written reasoning so another engineer can audit the judgement

Responsibilities

• Design challenging, realistic backend services, data modeling, and API design tasks drawn from production practice
• Evaluate model responses for correctness, sound reasoning, and subtle failure modes
• Document your reasoning clearly so another engineer can audit the judgement

Requirements

• Senior-level professional experience building backend services in production
• Strong SQL and schema design, plus caching and queueing patterns
• Track record owning service reliability and performance
