Senior Staff Electrical Engineer
Job Description
Saab is hiring a Senior Staff Electrical Engineer to support autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) for subsea applications. The role focuses on building dependable electrical architectures across AC/DC power, sensor integration, and electromechanical assembly, with hands-on work spanning design, build, test, and verification.
Based in Bristol, RI with a hybrid schedule, this position partners across engineering and operations to translate technical concepts into flight-ready performance, reliability, and manufacturable designs.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and technical guidance for electrical engineering support across AUV/ROV systems, including presenting product design and performance concepts.
- Coordinate with Systems, Software, Mechanical, Quality, and Manufacturing to design AUV/ROV systems as part of an integrated team.
- Execute R&D for new circuit card designs and electromechanical assemblies.
- Lead functional analysis, evaluation, and optimization of product designs.
- Present technical results and content to internal and external customers, tailored to the customer audience.
- Provide technical support to key subcontractors and suppliers.
- Create and maintain power and endurance budgets throughout development phases.
- Provide technical support for manufacturing-related matters.
- Lead design verification efforts.
- Lead cost/benefit trade-off analysis and feasibility studies.
- Lead electrical-related failure analysis of hardware.
- Contribute to system-level design considerations and trade-offs across multiple engineering disciplines.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering with 15+ years experience, or Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering with 13+ years experience.
- Experience using industry standard design tools including Altium, SPICE, and MATLAB.
- Product development experience with strong engineering aptitude and problem-solving skills related to underwater vehicles and devices.
- Demonstrated experience resolving issues during electrical engineering design, development, and execution.
- Strong interpersonal and group communication skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office software applications.
- Experience developing and tracking Earned Value (EV), Cost Account Management (CAM), and Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).
- Must hold or be able to obtain a U.S. DoD SECRET security clearance.
- Ability to travel up to 15%, including international and domestic travel.
- Proficiency understanding requirements traceability in a model-based systems engineering environment.

Desired Experience and Skills
- Prior DoD industry experience.
- Experience designing and testing electronics in wet and subsea environments.
- Experience with Altium, SPICE, and electrical systems in MATLAB.
- Familiarity with Mil Standards, ruggedized equipment design, and environmental test requirements.
- Knowledge of printed circuit board (PCB) design.
- Knowledge of design for EMI/EMC standards in military applications.
- Experience reading and creating schematics, wiring diagrams, and component data sheets.
- Experience derating components and designing for reliability.

Compensation: USD 127,300 - 165,500 per year.
