Job Description

The Solids Process Engineer at Brown and Caldwell focuses on leading process modeling, evaluations, testing, and delivering robust process solutions for wastewater and biosolids clients.

Location and Work Arrangement

Irvine, California, with a hybrid work arrangement.

Compensation

Salary range: USD 104,000 – 142,000 per year, determined by skills, experience, and education.

Education and Licensure

Required: Bachelor's degree in environmental, civil, chemical, mechanical, or biological engineering, and Professional Engineer licensure is required. Preferred: a master's degree in civil, environmental, chemical, or mechanical engineering or a related field.

Experience

Typically, at least five years of related work experience in process engineering or a closely related field. Certifications in the SMS Framework and progression through the SMS competencies are commonly expected.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of process models and perform advanced data analyses.
  • Oversee chemical, physical, and biological process evaluations, alternatives analyses, lifecycle cost analyses, and the implementation of process optimizations.
  • Direct troubleshooting efforts for existing facilities and develop solutions to process issues.
  • Ensure adherence to the Quality Management Plan and manage interim work and deliverables across projects.
  • Guide junior staff in process design and definition, including mass and energy balances, equipment specifications, and preliminary design concepts.
  • Participate in technical innovation projects and the adoption of new technologies and processes.
  • Lead the execution of experiments and evaluate technologies for potential implementation.
  • Lead physical, chemical, and biological testing, analysis, and data reporting.
  • Understand and deliver Brown and Caldwell’s process related differentiating solutions.
  • Engage in pursuits by providing process-focused technical content for proposals and presentations.
  • Contribute to process related risk assessment and mitigation strategies as needed.
  • Support regional conference presentations and publications to promote the firm’s brand.
  • Assist in developing continuing education and training on the latest technical advancements.
  • Mentor junior staff on development priorities and project assignments.
  • Support subject matter experts and practice leaders in maintaining accurate and up-to-date BC standards.
  • Adapt to evolving needs with flexibility to perform additional assignments, including solids and energy research under the National Technology and Innovation Lead.

Technical Proficiencies

Proficient in process modeling and data analysis with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. Capable of evaluating process performance with high-level oversight and communicating technical information effectively to clients and internal stakeholders. Familiarity with the SMS Framework.
