Sr. Data Engineer

The Sr. Data Engineer at Wellsky is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines, data infrastructure, and data visualization solutions on GCP and BigQuery. This role partners with stakeholders to improve data quality, accessibility, security, and BI and reporting capabilities, with a focus on reliable, production-ready systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, develop, maintain, and leverage data pipelines, data models, reporting outputs, and dashboards on GCP and BigQuery to address business problems and assigned tasks across multiple teams.
• Develop and maintain semantic models and Looker reporting using LookML, enabling business users to answer questions without writing SQL.
• Support operational data pipelines by troubleshooting and resolving production issues, including file processing failures, data quality anomalies, and integration errors.
• Improve and document workflows for complex data challenges by identifying patterns, trends, and anomalies, and by optimizing data processing and storage through automation to strengthen data quality.
• Build a working understanding of Wellsky solutions and develop subject matter expertise in the healthcare domain.
• Identify opportunities during code reviews and contribute to best practices and coding standards.
• Follow Wellsky core values, ensure PHI data security, and adapt to changes in BI technologies.
• Use AI tools and platforms as part of daily responsibilities to enhance decision-making, streamline workflows, and support data-informed outcomes.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience.
• 4–6 years of relevant work experience.
• Strong SQL skills, including hands-on experience developing and supporting data pipelines and data warehouse solutions.
• Experience with SQL Server data integration and ETL development, including SSIS or an equivalent tool.
• Experience with cloud-based data platforms and services, preferably in GCP environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Direct development experience with Looker and LookML.
• Experience using DBT for ELT/ETL processes, data modeling, testing, and documentation.
• Strong GCP knowledge, especially Cloud SQL, BigQuery, and Datastream.
• Experience with data replication and integration tools such as HVR, Datastream, or Fivetran (or similar CDC/replication technologies).
• Experience supporting BI and reporting environments like Looker or Tableau, including building well-modeled, performant datasets and migrating reporting between BI platforms.
• Experience with a Git-based workflow, including pull requests, code reviews, and CI/CD.
• Python experience for data engineering, tooling, and automation.
• Experience in the healthcare industry.
