Sr. Data Engineer

United Utility Services, LLC is seeking a hands-on Sr. Data Engineer to design, build, and operationalize a 100% cloud, Microsoft-centric enterprise data platform. This individual-contributor role emphasizes end-to-end ownership, unifying disparate vendor-hosted sources for governed analytics, self-service reporting, and future AI initiatives. Work is based onsite in Spring, TX and focuses on delivering outcomes in a lean IT environment.

What you’ll do

• Design and personally implement core enterprise data architecture components using Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, OneLake) and Azure data services.
• Build and maintain data ingestion and transformation pipelines integrating data from multiple SaaS and vendor-hosted systems.
• Create enterprise data models (conceptual, logical, physical) to support reporting and operational use cases.
• Deliver analytics and self-service reporting using Power BI, Power Platform, and Dataverse.
• Use strong SQL for data modeling, transformations, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
• Build reliable pipelines using Python, APIs, and cloud storage with modern integration tools.
• Work with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, Azure SQL / Synapse / Fabric, BigQuery, Redshift, or similar environments.
• Integrate structured and semi-structured sources including REST APIs, JSON, CSV, Excel, databases, and SaaS exports.
• Use tools such as dbt, Airbyte, Fivetran, Dagster, Airflow, and GitHub Actions (or similar) for transformation, orchestration, and integration.
• Apply Git-based development workflows and basic software engineering practices.
• Support AI-enabled analytics and internal tools, including practical use of AI coding assistants and LLM-based workflows.
• Improve Power BI and dataset performance through modeling, aggregation strategies, and Fabric/Azure SQL optimization.
• Ensure reports draw from governed, consistent datasets to reduce duplication and conflicting metrics.
• Partner with business users and analysts to translate reporting requirements into data models and reusable datasets.
• Define and execute a phased enterprise data strategy and establish standards balancing scalability, cost, and usability.
• Implement practical data governance, including data ownership and stewardship, quality rules and monitoring, and metadata/documentation/lineage standards.
• Coordinate with IT security to ensure security, access controls, and compliance requirements are met.
• Serve as a technical authority on enterprise data decisions and provide light mentorship as data practices mature.

Required qualifications

• 7+ years in data architecture, data engineering, or analytics architecture roles.
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric.
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Excel.
• Strong hands-on experience with Azure SQL.
• Strong hands-on experience with Power BI.
• Strong hands-on experience with Power Platform / Dataverse.
• Strong hands-on experience with Databricks.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python.
• Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake.
• Strong hands-on experience with Synapse.
• Strong hands-on experience with REST APIs, JSON, CSV, Excel, databases, and SaaS exports.
• Experience integrating data across multiple SaaS/vendor platforms.
• Proven ability to design and build cloud-native data architectures.
• Solid understanding of data governance implemented in real environments (not just frameworks).

Additional details

Salary range: USD 130,000 - 150,000 per year. Final compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.
