Job Description
Senior Data Engineer role at Tesla in Fremont, CA (onsite) focused on building scalable data pipelines to turn data into a strategic asset for solar and energy storage initiatives and to optimize generation, storage, distribution, and grid reliability.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement automated data solutions that empower teams across sales, operations, fulfillment, inventory, fleet, service, finance & accounting
- Own ideas from design through production, collaborating with stakeholders and cross-functional teams
- Develop, manage, and optimize high-performance ETL pipelines transforming complex datasets into clean, reliable, and accessible information
- Create and refine dimensional data models, including star schemas, to enable robust reporting and analytics
- Write and optimize scripts, processes, and jobs to streamline data operations and remove bottlenecks
- Explore new tools, frameworks, and real-time processing technologies to keep the data platform at the cutting edge
- Promote best practices in coding, documentation, and technical quality
- Ensure data quality, accuracy, and availability by implementing validation, monitoring, and governance processes
Requirements
- Deep SQL expertise with mastery of relational databases (SQL Server, MySQL, Vertica, etc.)
- Experience interacting with APIs
- Ability to incorporate AI tools as part of solution development
- Hands-on experience with data warehousing and dimensional modeling for large-scale systems
- Strong programming skills in Python
- Familiarity with distributed systems (Kafka, Spark, Iceberg) and NoSQL/document databases (MongoDB)
- Knowledge of ETL orchestration tools (Airflow, Luigi, etc.) and visualization platforms (Power BI, Tableau, Looker, SSRS)
- Excellent communication skills to translate complex data solutions into business impact
- Background in energy solar and storage is a plus, but curiosity and real-world problem solving matter most

Compensation
Base salary range: USD 120,000 to 216,000 per year, plus cash and stock awards, and benefits. Total compensation varies by location, experience, and skills; additional plan elements may apply.
