Job Description
The Energy Core Services team at Tesla, part of Digital Experience, is seeking a hands-on Sr. Machine Learning Engineer to design and deliver production machine learning systems and agentic AI workflows. This role supports predictive intelligence across Tesla Energy products and services, with an emphasis on training, deployment, and automated diagnostics that help address operational quality challenges.
What you’ll do
- Train and deploy machine learning models to production, including computer vision, NLP, and LLM-based approaches, to help detect, understand, and forecast quality issues across Tesla Energy products and services
- Design and build data storage and ingestion systems tailored for machine learning use cases
- Run statistical analyses to support understanding of occurrence rate, risk, and root cause for quality issues
- Build and deploy scalable ML infrastructure, including automated retraining, model versioning and evaluation, and low-latency real-time inference
- Create agentic SI workflows that autonomously detect, diagnose, prioritize, and recommend remediation for operational challenges across Tesla Energy products and services
- Develop and maintain dashboards and data visualizations, using BI tools such as Tableau and Power BI, along with in-product dashboards, to support modeling use cases and implementation
- Support business leaders with strategy and quarterly planning using data-driven decisions, including explaining model predictions and recommended actions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Write unit and integration tests to help ensure code functionality requirements are met
- Collaborate with cross-functional software, data engineering, product, and operations teams to define data requirements, model evaluation frameworks, and deployment architectures
Required qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years hands-on experience building and deploying production ML models, with strong focus on time-series analysis, anomaly detection, classification, or computer vision
- Deep expertise in ML frameworks and tools such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and scikit-learn, plus LLM application frameworks such as LangGraph
- Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, and proficiency in at least one compiled language for production backend services: C#, Go, or C++
- Proven experience with large-scale datasets, event-driven data pipelines (for example RabbitMQ or Kafka), and real-time inference systems
- Deep understanding of statistical methods for anomaly detection, forecasting, root cause analysis, and causal inference
- Strong technical communication skills, including the ability to explain complex ML concepts and collaborate effectively across teams
- Background in energy systems such as solar, energy storage, power electronics, or grid operations, with ability to encode domain knowledge into ML models
- Experience with model optimization and MLOps, including quantization, automated retraining, model versioning, and production monitoring
Technologies
- Python, SQL, PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, LangGraph
- C#, Go, C++, RabbitMQ, Kafka
- Tableau, Power BI
