Sr. Distinguished AI Engineer
Job Description
Capital One is building responsible, scalable AI capabilities through its Intelligent Foundations and Experiences (IFX) team. In this role, you will help design and deliver AI software components that support foundation model training and LLM-powered experiences, with an emphasis on evaluation, governance, and observability.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineers, research scientists, technical program managers, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products that change how associates work and how customers interact with Capital One.
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components, including foundation model training, large language model inference, similarity search, guardrails, model evaluation, experimentation, governance, and observability.
- Use a broad stack of open source and SaaS AI technologies, including AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, Nemo Guardrails, PyTorch, and more.
- Develop and introduce state-of-the-art LLM optimization techniques to improve performance across scalability, cost, latency, and throughput for production AI systems.
- Help shape the technical vision and long-term roadmap for foundational AI systems at Capital One.
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field plus at least 10 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies, or a Master’s degree plus at least 8 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies.
- At least 10 years of programming experience with Python, Go, Scala, or Java.

Compensation and incentives
- Remote (regardless of location): $286,200 - $326,700 per year
- McLean, VA: $314,800 - $359,300 per year
- Performance-based incentive compensation eligibility, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
