Job Description

Join a team focused on powering Walmart’s e-commerce experience with foundational machine learning models built from large-scale user interactions. This role supports scalable search, advertising, recommendation, and personalization by combining data science, machine learning, and software engineering to improve model performance, training, and deployment. You will also help bring secure, compliant machine learning to production while collaborating closely with engineers, data scientists, and product teams in a dynamic technology environment.

What you’ll do

  • Work with engineers, data scientists, and product teams to deliver machine learning features and models.
  • Design and build auto-research capabilities that automate model training, optimization, experimentation, and evaluation.
  • Enable iterative hyperparameter tuning and experiment execution against defined objective metrics.
  • Surface top-performing models with minimal manual effort to accelerate the machine learning development lifecycle.
  • Implement, test, and support machine learning services, APIs, and data pipelines to maintain quality and reliability.
  • Apply MLOps practices such as CI/CD, model versioning, and automated retraining to sustain performance over time.
  • Perform rigorous model evaluation, monitoring, and maintenance to address model drift and performance issues.
  • Ensure machine learning engineering work follows secure and compliant practices aligned with enterprise AI governance standards.

Key requirements

  • Proven expertise designing, developing, and deploying scalable machine learning systems using TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Scikit-learn.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, Java, and C++ for production-ready ML applications.
  • Hands-on experience operating agentic or autonomous research systems.
  • Experience running automated experimentation against defined objective metrics via AutoResearch loops.
  • Experience across the machine learning lifecycle including data sourcing, feature engineering, training, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of MLOps, including CI/CD, model versioning, automated retraining, and telemetry.
  • Ability to implement secure and compliant machine learning pipelines aligned with enterprise AI governance standards.
  • Demonstrated collaboration and mentorship capabilities within cross-functional teams.

Education and experience

  • Minimum qualifications (Option 1): Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years of experience in software engineering, machine learning engineering, AI systems, or related area.
  • Minimum qualifications (Option 2): 5 years of experience in software engineering, machine learning engineering, AI systems, or related area.

Technologies: TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, Python, SQL, Java, C++, CI/CD, AutoResearch, telemetry.
