Sr. Software Engineer

Viant Technology is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the Potens team in Irvine, CA (onsite). In this hands-on full-stack role, you will help evolve Viant’s internal workflow orchestration and BigQuery exploration platforms, while expanding AI-powered capabilities through production-grade integrations.

Working across Java and Go services, JavaScript applications, and data platforms, you will contribute to end-to-end delivery, from technical proposal through deployment and production support. The position also includes building AI features using modern LLM patterns such as tool calling, guardrails, and evaluation.

Role Overview

• Evolve Magnus and Goliath internal platforms that support workflow orchestration and large-scale data exploration
• Modernize established systems while delivering new AI-powered capabilities
• Work across Java/Go backends, browser-based JavaScript, data platforms, and AI integrations
• Improve how users and authorized AI agents interact with platform capabilities, from creating and managing workflows to exploring BigQuery and executing generated SQL
• Build reliable software with an engineering workflow that includes ownership from design through ongoing production support

Responsibilities

• Maintain and modernize Magnus Java applications, REST APIs, and Goliath JavaScript/jQuery frontend
• Develop and support backend capabilities using Java and Go
• Build production AI features and integrations using LLMs, tool calling, guardrails, evaluation, and MCP
• Integrate with BigQuery, MySQL, GCP services, and internal APIs
• Diagnose and resolve application, workflow, database, performance, and production issues
• Build automated tests and deliver production-quality software
• Own projects end to end, including technical proposal, implementation, deployment, and production support
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to strong engineering practices across the team

• Magnus: visual workflow orchestration supporting BigQuery, Cloud Storage, MySQL, REST APIs, email, FTP, conditional routing, parallel execution, Go and JavaScript scripting, YAML workflow definitions, debugging, audit history, and access controls
• Goliath: lightweight, high-performance BigQuery development interface for writing and executing SQL, browsing datasets and tables, visualizing results, and managing cost and quota allocation without requiring direct access to the GCP Console

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: USD 150,000 - 180,000 per year
