Sr Software Engineer (low latency)

Geval6 is seeking a Senior Software Engineer specializing in low-latency systems for a hybrid role based in Chicago. The position focuses on delivering secure, scalable, and reliable technology solutions with minimal supervision to support global risk management needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and solution-efficiency efforts to optimize performance and resource usage.
• Balance throughput, capacity, and reliability with core functionality.
• Identify opportunities to optimize code paths and performance.
• Provide input during code reviews and assist with environment builds, release notes, and build notices.
• Review code to proactively detect defects, identify root causes, and troubleshoot various forms of code.
• Develop optimized modules and unit tests with minimal supervision.
• Understand low-level designs and integrate them into the broader application.
• Use design tools to share and discuss design ideas for large-scale systems.
• Work with low-level diagnostics such as packet capture and hardware counters.
• Apply knowledge of modern multi-processor architectures to achieve high throughput and low latency.
• Utilize established patterns to improve best practices and process enhancements.

Requirements

• Ability to evaluate algorithmic and data-structure choices under given constraints.
• Proficiency in multi-threading, concurrent data structures, shared memory, asynchronous programming, JNI, NIO, and HashMap usage.
• Understanding of queueing theory and various designs to enhance system performance.
• Experience with networking protocols such as UDP and TCP.
• Familiarity with redundancy and fault-tolerance techniques.
• Preference for experience with EF_VI, JNI, and On-load Solar Flare extension APIs.
• Knowledge of thread pinning, interrupts, core isolation, jitter, NUMA nodes, and TLB caches is advantageous.
• Familiarity with JVM internals and garbage collection tuning.
• Advanced understanding of Linux kernel or OS internals.

$80.00 - $82.00 per hour
