The Staff Instrumentation & Controls Engineer - Power Generation role is onsite in Overland Park, KS, with opportunities to collaborate across markets such as Ann Arbor, Orlando, Houston, Atlanta, Chicago, Cary, Tualatin, and Jacksonville. The position provides advanced engineering leadership and may supervise staff on low to medium complexity projects.

Key responsibilities

  • Advance knowledge of design guides, standards, systems, engineering codes, and B&V policies, and guide others as needed.
  • Provide technical guidance across projects and disciplines.
  • Apply knowledge independently and comply with the B&V quality program for assigned tasks, with responsibility for quality program compliance where applicable.
  • Support continuous improvement and change management efforts.
  • Prepare complex engineering deliverables for large or multiple projects and conduct research to recommend equipment and materials.
  • Oversee data collection and management for engineering work when required; perform complex calculations using standard methods.
  • Manage budgets, schedules, and quality requirements for assigned work; apply advanced techniques and analyses.
  • Delegate tasks to lower level staff to develop project execution depth; review their work as needed.
  • Lead production teams or coordinate multi-discipline activities; serve as the responsible charge for projects when appropriate.
  • Coordinate with internal and external team members on moderately complex projects; identify client interests and drivers and communicate them to the team.
  • Support business development or pursuit activities and provide client-focused services where applicable.
  • Serve as a technical specialist with guidance for project teams in a specific practice area; mentor knowledge management within the group.
  • May design complete moderately complex projects or support multiple projects confronting complex technical challenges; foster knowledge sharing and mentoring.
  • Contribute to career planning, learning and development, and succession planning for lower level professionals.
  • May assist with resource management strategy and oversee engineering resources for small multidisciplinary groups.
  • Handle administrative responsibilities such as implementing policies, ensuring adherence to corporate programs, and approving timesheets and expense reports.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience
  • Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, including criminal/civil background checks, drug screening, and motor vehicle records search, as required by law
