In Metairie, Louisiana, a Design Engineer is needed to provide technical engineering expertise across the lifecycle of pipeline projects, from design through construction and operation. This onsite role supports onshore, offshore, and marine facilities, working closely with field teams to develop robust specifications, layouts, and analyses that meet client standards and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate activities related to technical development, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test issues.
- Apply both conventional and emerging engineering practices to address complex features, including conflicting design requirements and material suitability.
- Implement changes to project scope as directed by project management and the project engineer.
- Support design and construction engineering activities for pipelines and related facilities on assigned projects, aligned with company and client standards.
- Design pipeline systems, including compression facilities, pump facilities, storage tank terminals, and meter stations.
- Develop project-specific specifications, piping layouts, design calculations, stress analyses, procurement specifications and material engineering, and field engineering.
- Work closely with field personnel on all aspects of engineering, design, operations, and maintenance.
- Review and evaluate work to ensure quality control in adherence to policies and procedures.
- Support material procurement efforts.
- Remain current with pipeline regulations, industry codes and standards, integrity assessment methods, construction and repair methods, etc.
- Facilitate or support collaboration and coordination of activities with other departments and offices.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager.
Requirements
- Civil and Mechanical engineering disciplines are preferred, but other backgrounds will be considered.
- Additional consideration given to candidates with design experience in crude oil handling and storage systems (tanks, pumps, etc.) and/or design of gas processing systems.
- Prior engineering design experience is preferred; all levels will be considered.
- Technical knowledge and work experience in pipeline risk management and analysis.
- Engineering expertise with knowledge of industry codes and regulations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with company personnel, clients, and industry representatives.
- Capability to support complex design and construction projects concurrently, analyze engineering data and develop effective solutions, and prepare technical reports.
- Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and set priorities.
- Highly motivated, team-oriented, customer focused, and willing to learn beyond one's own discipline.
- Independent judgment and strong analytical abilities.
- Commitment to quality standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interaction with management, engineering, and support staff.
- Minimum experience: 1 year. Education: Bachelor's degree preferred.
