Structural Engineer
Job Description

You will contribute to the design of cast-in-place and precast concrete structures such as high-capacity storage tanks, footings, precast and prestressed building components, bridge elements, underground drainage and utility structures, and other specialty structures, reporting directly to the Vice President of Engineering and Design.
Responsibilities
- Develop structural designs and calculations for submittals to customers and third-party reviewers, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Produce engineering details and drawings in collaboration with the drafting team to ensure accurate submittal and production drawings.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all relevant design codes, standards, and requirements.
- Provide technical assistance to production and quality control teams.
- Communicate engineering requirements for construction, modifications, and structural repairs to clients, production/construction teams, and management.
- Define design criteria and standards for projects when not specified by project documentation.
- Support the sales team by determining project parameters used in bidding processes.
- Review and approve in-house and external ready-mix concrete designs.
- Understand and assist in maintaining the company quality control programs across all divisions.
- Keep current on materials, methods, and tools used for jump-form construction, buildings, bridges, box culverts, concrete pipe, retaining walls, storm and sanitary sewer structures, and related precast components.
- Assist in maintaining and developing plant and drawing standards.
- Collaborate with architects and contractors to keep projects progressing efficiently.
- Work with surveyors to establish installations, reference points, grades, elevations, and other factors affecting construction.
- Observe safety testing or component load testing as required by projects.
- Participate in industry associations and related organizations.
- Maintain continuing education to keep licenses and certifications current.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural Emphasis required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure required.
- Familiarity with applicable building codes, ASTM specifications, ACI specifications, and other codes used in concrete design.
- Thorough understanding of the company's Quality Control Program for Construction and Products.
- Strong grasp of structural engineering principles, practices, and tools.
- Proficiency with CAD and related design, data recording, and analysis software.
- Solid understanding of safety regulations for assigned projects.
- Ability to identify and solve complex problems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Creative and analytical thinking with meticulous attention to detail.
