Job Description

Systems Engineer opportunity at Amentum in Houston, TX (onsite) supporting NASA space exploration, with a focus on requirements management, lifecycle planning, risk management, and verification activities within a collaborative aerospace environment.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the planning, development, review, and maintenance of requirements and verification plans.
  • Prepare materials for system lifecycle phasing, including System Readiness Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), and Critical Design Review (CDR).
  • Collaborate with team members to identify risks, craft risk statements, and help plan risk responses.
  • Perform and review system level architecture trade studies and analyses that influence the overall system design and performance.
  • Utilize a requirements management tool such as DOORS, Cradle, or Jama.
  • Create and manage requirements for multiple projects, cascading NASA program requirements to contractor project stages, supporting verification closeout, and defining interfaces between subsystems.
  • Contribute in a team environment and report to the team lead to provide progress updates and raise issues.
  • Maintain professional relationships with the NASA customer and other NASA support contractors.
  • Support and participate in system testing activities.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Experience leading technical teams.
  • Experience designing and leading complex system development involving hardware and software configuration items.
  • Experience leading development projects.
  • Knowledge of the systems engineering process and the system lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of the systems development lifecycle including hardware and software development processes.
  • Understanding of the space system certification process.
  • Understanding of Design for Sustainment methodology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication across multiple disciplines.
  • Experience in a Systems Engineering role within a NASA, DoD, or aerospace environment.
  • Experience with requirements management, verification and validation definition and execution, design trades, risk analysis, and system analysis of space hardware.
  • Experience with concept development, operation concept definition, architecture definition, verification, testing, and operation of space hardware.
  • Ability to prepare written documents and to present at meetings.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint and Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience with the design, assembly, verification, testing, and operation of space hardware.

Requisition Preferences

  • INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional certification
  • Foundational knowledge of space hardware concepts including mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings, material selection, and design software/tools
  • Experience with NASA JSC Flight Hardware Life Cycle, Certification, and Engineering processes
  • Working knowledge of NASA, JSC, and ISS standard practices and requirements including safety, fault tolerance, and discipline-specific requirements
  • Familiarity with NASA/JSC documentation databases and SharePoint sites as well as common systems engineering software products
  • Experience in technical or team leadership roles
