Systems Engineer - ECTS

This onsite role in Houston supports NASA space exploration programs with a focus on requirements management, lifecycle planning, risk management, and verification across space hardware projects.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, review, and maintain requirements and verification plans.
• Prepare materials for system life cycle phasing, including System Readiness Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), and Critical Design Review (CDR).
• Collaborate with team members to identify risks, craft risk statements, and help plan risk responses.
• Perform and review system level architecture trade studies and analyses that influence overall design and performance.
• Utilize a requirements management and systems engineering tool such as DOORS, Cradle, or Jama.
• Create and manage requirements for multiple projects, including flow down from NASA programs to contractor projects through verification closeout and interface definitions between subsystems.
• Work in a team environment and report to the team lead to provide status updates and raise issues as needed.
• Maintain a professional relationship with NASA customers and other NASA support contractors.
• Support and participate in system testing activities.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline with 2 to 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Alternative: a related bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of related experience, or 2+ years of related experience with a related master’s degree.
• Experience leading technical teams.
• Experience designing and leading complex system development including hardware and software configuration items.
• Experience leading development projects.
• Knowledge of the systems engineering process and the system lifecycle.
• Knowledge of the systems development lifecycle including hardware and software development processes.
• Understanding of the space system certification process and Design for Sustainment methodology.
• Excellent written and verbal communication across multiple disciplines.
• Experience in a Systems Engineering role within NASA, DoD, or Aerospace environments.
• Experience with requirements management, verification and validation definition and execution, design trades, risk analysis, and system analysis of space hardware.
• Experience with concept development, operation concepts, architecture definition, verification, testing, and operation of space hardware.
• Ability to prepare written documents and present verbally at meetings.
• Familiarity with SharePoint and Microsoft Office products.

Requisition Preferences

• INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional certification
• Basic knowledge of space hardware concepts such as mechanical and electrical systems, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, and design tools
• Experience with NASA JSC Flight Hardware Life Cycle, Certification, and Engineering processes
• Working knowledge of NASA, JSC, and ISS standards, including safety, fault tolerance, and related disciplines
• Familiarity with NASA/JSC documentation databases and SharePoint sites, plus typical systems engineering software products
• Experience in technical or team leadership roles
