Systems Security Engineer

Round Peg Solutions is seeking a Systems Security Engineer for an on-site, six-month contract in Fort Wayne, Indiana, with potential for extension. This role supports an aerospace and defense engagement centered on CMMC compliance, including security documentation, network mapping, gap assessment, and implementation support for CMMC-related security solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Support CMMC compliance mapping by documenting the policies, procedures, and controls required to support certification.
• Develop and maintain network maps, including documentation of system operational status and identification of relevant enterprise infrastructure.
• Map data flows involving CUI and define the scope of the System Security Plan based on workflows, systems, and personnel.
• Perform security gap assessments and develop documented Plans of Action and Milestones to address compliance requirements.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to implement practical security solutions, provide progress updates, and support network administration activities aligned to CMMC compliance.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum four years of enterprise IT and networking experience, including recent experience in a Systems Security Engineer role.
• Practical working knowledge of CMMC regulations and relevant NIST security standards, with the ability to interpret requirements and convert them into documented actions.
• Strong understanding of enterprise networking technologies, including TCP/IP, switching, routing, VLANs, wireless networks, and next generation firewalls.
• Strong skills in documentation, communication, organization, and project management, with the ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
• Experience with on-site network security in a manufacturing environment is preferred, along with familiarity with Fortinet, Cisco, Windows Server, Active Directory, SQL Server, Linux, VMware, or Hyper V.
