Job Description

This Software Engineer role is part of Markel Corporation's State National team in Bedford, TX, operating on a hybrid schedule and focusing on loan-file processing and ETL-driven data conversions within an HP-UX/Informix/Cobol environment with client-facing duties.

Responsibilities

Analyze and diagnose issues with loan files received from clients on a daily basis.
Support the submission of account loan files to Operations each day.
Design and implement changes and enhancements to the Loan File Application, with a focus on ETL processes.
Manage multiple concurrent projects, assist with prioritization, and report status; production and test environments operate in HP-UX/Informix/Cobol and Linux.
Communicate with clients to address questions, provide clarifications, resolve issues, and follow up as needed.
Onboard new clients in both test and live systems.
Process insurance conversion files for new accounts.
Implement application system changes for new and existing clients in third-party data conversion software.

Requirements

High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
At least 4 years of experience in QA and/or programming.
Programming languages: Cobol, Informix ISQL/4GL; ETL Tools are a plus.
Operating systems and scripting: vi, HP-UX/UNIX, Shell scripting, Linux, .NET.
Knowledge of SQL and database/file structures.
Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Detail oriented.
