Software Engineer - State National
Job Description
This Software Engineer role is part of Markel Corporation's State National team in Bedford, TX, operating on a hybrid schedule and focusing on loan-file processing and ETL-driven data conversions within an HP-UX/Informix/Cobol environment with client-facing duties.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and diagnose issues with loan files received from clients on a daily basis.
- Support the submission of account loan files to Operations each day.
- Design and implement changes and enhancements to the Loan File Application, with a focus on ETL processes.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects, assist with prioritization, and report status; production and test environments operate in HP-UX/Informix/Cobol and Linux.
- Communicate with clients to address questions, provide clarifications, resolve issues, and follow up as needed.
- Onboard new clients in both test and live systems.
- Process insurance conversion files for new accounts.
- Implement application system changes for new and existing clients in third-party data conversion software.
Requirements
- High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
- At least 4 years of experience in QA and/or programming.
- Programming languages: Cobol, Informix ISQL/4GL; ETL Tools are a plus.
- Operating systems and scripting: vi, HP-UX/UNIX, Shell scripting, Linux, .NET.
- Knowledge of SQL and database/file structures.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Detail oriented.
