Software Engineer - State National

This Software Engineer role is part of Markel Corporation's State National team in Bedford, TX, operating on a hybrid schedule and focusing on loan-file processing and ETL-driven data conversions within an HP-UX/Informix/Cobol environment with client-facing duties.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and diagnose issues with loan files received from clients on a daily basis.
• Support the submission of account loan files to Operations each day.
• Design and implement changes and enhancements to the Loan File Application, with a focus on ETL processes.
• Manage multiple concurrent projects, assist with prioritization, and report status; production and test environments operate in HP-UX/Informix/Cobol and Linux.
• Communicate with clients to address questions, provide clarifications, resolve issues, and follow up as needed.
• Onboard new clients in both test and live systems.
• Process insurance conversion files for new accounts.
• Implement application system changes for new and existing clients in third-party data conversion software.

Requirements

• High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
• At least 4 years of experience in QA and/or programming.
• Programming languages: Cobol, Informix ISQL/4GL; ETL Tools are a plus.
• Operating systems and scripting: vi, HP-UX/UNIX, Shell scripting, Linux, .NET.
• Knowledge of SQL and database/file structures.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Detail oriented.
