Job Description

Lead injection molding project execution from customer RFQ through commercial production while coordinating technical deliverables across cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and lead multi-phase project teams using standard project management processes, tracking deliverables from concept through launch
Serve as the primary technical liaison and single point of contact to both the customer and WPI management team during development efforts
Provide regular project updates to management, including risks, critical paths, and mitigation plans
Oversee compilation of validation protocols and final PPAP packages
Review customer RFQs, 3D CAD files, and technical drawings
Identify manufacturing risks and cost drivers using DFM (Design for Manufacturing) analysis
Provide technical inputs for tool construction requirements and part cost estimates
Manage external tool shops to ensure mold designs meet company and customer standards
Track tooling build timelines and manage engineering changes (ECOs)
Apply initiative and engineering judgment to resolve technical challenges and project obstacles
Identify and monitor overall program costs, timing, and deliverables to keep key milestones on track
Support business development activities such as supply agreements, long-term agreements, cost reduction requests, cost sharing requests, pricing negotiations, and account reviews
Participate in cost control and profitability decisions in collaboration with manufacturing groups, accounting, and sales
Coordinate mold sampling activities and support process qualification through successful production validation
Collaborate across Manufacturing, Tool Room, Quality, Purchasing, Customer Services, Sales, and Production to ensure successful execution
Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Plastics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field
Minimum of 4 years of engineering or project management experience in a manufacturing environment
Management and cross-functional team experience; PMP or PMI certification is a plus
Proven ability to motivate and direct diverse teams and hold technical stakeholders accountable without direct authority
Understanding of product development process, associated terminology, and quality system requirements
Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, sales, and customers
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for customer and vendor relationships
Understanding of financial statements and accounting practices and terminology at a project level
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to make technical recommendations
Exercises independent judgment
Ability to identify problems, develop and implement action plans, and evaluate engineering alternatives
Ability to motivate and influence people to achieve customer satisfaction
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Strong organizational skills, ability to determine priorities, and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Strong negotiation skills
Ability to maintain complete and accurate project documentation in accordance with company procedures
Ability to make sound technical decisions under pressure

Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing injection molding projects from quotation through production launch
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
Experience with ERP systems such as DELMIAWorks (formerly IQMS)

Qualifications - Physical Demands

Work performed in both an office environment and an active manufacturing facility with exposure to machinery, noise, moving equipment, heat, and industrial chemicals; appropriate PPE required in production areas
Requires frequent walking throughout the three manufacturing facilities
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
Ability to stand, bend, walk, sit, crawl, climb, and reach as needed
Ability to travel to customer locations or vendors as required
