Adjunct Faculty - Electrical and Computer Engineering - Cybersecurity Capstone Coach

Brigham Young University seeks an adjunct faculty member in Electrical and Computer Engineering to coach a cybersecurity capstone team. This onsite role in Provo, Utah focuses on mentoring undergraduate engineering students through their capstone design work while coordinating with a project sponsor and supporting BYU mission alignment and policies.

Role Overview

As an adjunct faculty coach, you will work with an assigned student team of 5–7 members to support successful completion of their cybersecurity capstone project. The position includes teaching and reinforcing the capstone design process, attending required capstone activities, and maintaining an effective partnership with the project sponsor. Support for the mission of BYU and adherence to university policies are integral to the role.

Key Responsibilities

• Work with the assigned student team of 5–7 members to help students learn the design process and complete the assigned capstone project.
• Guide the team in selecting and applying an appropriate project structure, workflow, and design process based on the project nature, technical requirements, deliverables, timeline, and sponsor expectations.
• Learn and share Capstone policies with the team.
• Coach and mentor the student team throughout the capstone lifecycle.
• Attend Capstone lectures, weekly team meetings, and Capstone faculty coach meetings.
• Establish and maintain an excellent working relationship with the project sponsor.
• Support the team in maintaining realistic project scope, timelines, and deliverables.
• Assist students in understanding how general course requirements apply to their specific project.
• Help students develop professional soft skills and effective teamwork practices.
• Provide coaching time averaging 3 hours per week between 8:00–10:00 a.m. M–F.
• Support the mission of Brigham Young University.

Required and Preferred Qualifications

• BS degree in cybersecurity, computer science, engineering, or a related field (required).
• MS degree (preferred).
• The required degree must be completed by the start date.
• Demonstrated success within career.
• Interest and passion in the design education process.
