AI Engineer
Job Description
The AI Engineer will join Booz Allen Hamilton's Global Defense team, focusing on training, testing, deploying, and maintaining machine learning models for mission-critical environments. The role involves applying ML algorithms, collaborating with engineers and stakeholders, and shaping ML strategy across enterprise and mission contexts, with exposure to advanced tooling such as LLMs, RAG pipelines, and AI agents.
Responsibilities
- Train, test, deploy, and maintain models that learn from data.
- Apply appropriate ML algorithms and technologies to mission-critical solutions.
- Collaborate with senior architects, platform leads, and business stakeholders to deliver robust solutions across enterprise and mission environments.
- Gain exposure to next-generation tooling, including LLMs, RAG pipelines, and AI agents, while contributing to high-impact projects requiring both technical and strategic insight.
- Assist clients in navigating the ecosystem of ML algorithms, tools, and frameworks.
- Contribute to solving real-world challenges through ML initiatives.
- Define the ML strategy for Global Defense.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in machine learning engineering within software engineering or data engineering roles
- Experience building AI-enabled features or prototypes using LLMs, embeddings, or third-party APIs (including OpenAI or Anthropic)
- Experience with basic prompt engineering concepts and the use of LLM SDKs or frameworks (such as LangChain or LlamaIndex)
- Experience with application containerization, CI/CD deployments, and Python
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and their AI or ML services
- Experience with a vector database or search framework (OpenSearch or Weaviate)
- Experience developing backend services and building or consuming RESTful APIs
- Ability to follow code review practices, document work, and maintain clean, reusable code

Clearance

Compensation
The projected compensation range for this position is USD 77,600 to 176,000 per year. Booz Allen determines salary based on location, the individual's education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. This posting will close within 90 days from the Posting Date.
