AI Engineer
Job Description
Workday’s Agent Factory is building production-grade capabilities for Workday’s next generation of AI agents. As an AI Engineer, you will design and integrate intelligent feature layers that connect AI intelligence orchestration to user-facing product delivery within the Workday stack.
Role Focus
- Develop and integrate intelligent feature layers behind Workday’s next generation of AI agents.
- Own intelligence orchestration and product delivery, connecting model “intelligence” to the user experience.
- Implement how pre-trained foundational models, including LLMs and vision APIs, support functional, enterprise software features.
- Build Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines for grounded, reliable outputs.
- Manage orchestration frameworks and support continuous prompt engineering.
Collaboration and Execution
You will collaborate with senior engineers, product managers, and designers to translate advanced agentic workflows into responsive, reliable, and user-centric capabilities embedded directly into Workday’s platform. This work is positioned to solve real customer needs at global scale rather than remain in research or maintenance.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including developing, testing, and deploying production code.
- 1+ years of professional experience (or a strong, demonstrable portfolio of applied work) using Large Language Models (LLMs), foundational models, or modern AI APIs.
- Demonstrated experience with AI orchestration concepts such as LangChain or LlamaIndex, plus a strong foundation in prompt engineering for LLM-powered features.
- 2+ years hands-on experience with API integration, backend application development, and managing data pipelines.
- 2+ years experience with core development languages (such as Python) and modern software engineering workflows, including CI/CD, testing frameworks, and version control.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent (Master’s preferred).
- Strong interest in user experience and applying AI to practical customer problems.
- Familiarity with AI orchestration concepts, vector databases, semantic search, and prompt optimization techniques.
- Experience performing data exploration, transformation, and integrating varied data sources to ground AI outputs contextually.
- Ability to work in a team environment with software developers, product managers, and UX designers.
- Eagerness to keep pace with advances in generative AI, autonomous agents, and LLM application design.
