AI Engineer Associate

Trinity Industries is hiring an AI Engineer Associate in Dallas, TX (onsite) to design and deliver agentic AI applications for enterprise business teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, prototype, and deliver agentic systems that plan and execute multi-step business tasks, including connectors and integrations to internal systems and APIs.
• Build agentic solutions with agent controls: evaluation against defined success criteria, scoped and secure tool access, human approval steps for actions with business or financial risk, and monitoring of agent behavior in production.
• Generate code and deployable artifacts using AI-assisted generation; read, explain, test, and troubleshoot code before release.
• Deploy and support applications through source control, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines, including triaging issues and iterating post-launch.
• Apply data governance and access-control practices to every solution, in partnership with data engineering.
• Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, data engineers, and business stakeholders to understand business problems and likely solution paths.
• Demo outcomes and provide concise handoff documentation, runbooks, and impact metrics.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, a quantitative discipline, or equivalent demonstrated practical experience.
• Demonstrable experience building AI prototypes or agentic projects (internship, coursework, research, personal projects, or employment).
• Ability to write code using AI-assisted coding tools in an IDE and to read, explain, test, and troubleshoot the resulting code.
• Familiarity with SQL and cloud data platforms such as Databricks, Azure, AWS, or equivalents.
• Working knowledge of version control (Git) and collaborative development practices.
• Strong problem solving and communication skills, including presenting technical work to nontechnical stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and communicate status without close supervision.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

• Experience with unstructured text and retrieval approaches for document/question answering (RAG or index + LLM patterns).
• Comfort integrating services via REST APIs and using secure authentication patterns.
• Exposure to CI/CD tooling (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar) and deploying via automated pipelines.
• Experience building/work with data/workflow pipelines or orchestration tools, including scheduling and task orchestration concepts.
• Exposure to observability practices for deployed applications, including logging, cost tracking, and basic drift checks.
• Exposure to data governance concepts such as catalogs, lineage, and role-based access control.

Growth Path

• Entry-level role with opportunity to progress into a more senior individual contributor position.
• Work on enterprise platforms using enterprise-provided AI development tools, starting within established patterns and taking increasing ownership across the application lifecycle.
• Move toward leading projects end-to-end as experience grows, including work with Databricks and Palantir Foundry.
