Job Description

The New IEM, LLC is seeking an Analytics Engineer to transform raw data into production analytics models and manage the transformation layer between data ingestion and the BI surface. This remote role supports Tableau dashboards and self-service analytics across Finance, Production, Supply Chain, and Engineering, leveraging dbt, Snowflake, and a modern data stack to deliver reliable metrics and dimensional models.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, and document dbt transformation models that convert Snowflake raw data into clean, analytics-ready datasets across Finance, Production, Supply Chain, and Engineering.
  • Develop conformed dimensions, fact tables, and reporting models that balance performance, maintainability, and business-user accessibility for Tableau dashboards and ad-hoc analysis.
  • Own data quality by authoring dbt tests, monitoring data freshness, investigating issues end-to-end, and driving root-cause resolution.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders and the Business Intelligence team to translate operational needs into scalable data models and reliable metrics.
  • Establish and document standardized metric definitions and reusable data models to ensure consistency and accuracy across reporting.
  • Maintain clear model descriptions, column-level documentation, and lineage notes that are useful to the team and downstream BI developers.
  • Participate in code reviews, follow Git workflows and CI/CD practices, and contribute to evolving modeling conventions and deployment standards.
  • Collaborate with data engineering on Fivetran and custom ingestion to ensure raw data arrives in shapes suitable for downstream models.
  • Work with BI developers and analysts to structure datasets for optimal Tableau performance and effective self-service analytics.
  • Leverage AI coding assistants and agent-based tools to accelerate model development, testing, refactoring, and documentation, and manage AI agents as part of daily workflow.
  • Stay current with the modern data stack and analytics engineering practices, bringing ideas to the team to raise overall capabilities over time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience) with 4–6 years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or BI development, including ownership of production data models.
  • Strong SQL skills with experience transforming data, handling complex queries, and optimizing performance on large datasets.
  • Hands-on dbt experience, including incremental models, tests, macros, snapshots, and documentation.
  • Experience with Snowflake or a comparable cloud data warehouse, plus familiarity with ELT tools such as Fivetran.
  • Solid understanding of dimensional modeling concepts (grain, surrogate keys, slowly changing dimensions, star schemas).
  • Working knowledge of Python for data processing, scripting, or lightweight integrations.
  • Familiarity with Tableau or similar BI tools and awareness of how data structure impacts performance.
  • Experience with Git and modern development practices, including code reviews and CI/CD workflows.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to translate technical concepts for business stakeholders, gathering requirements clearly.
  • Collaborative team player who is open to training, mentoring, and working with non-technical stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently while coordinating with distributed teams.
  • Experience leveraging AI coding assistants (eg, Copilot, Claude) to support SQL development, dbt modeling, testing, and documentation.

Technologies

  • dbt, Snowflake, SQL, Python, Tableau, Git, Fivetran, Copilot, Claude, YAML, CI/CD
