Automation Engineer
Job Description
Join Zip Pak's Atlanta manufacturing team as an Automation Engineer responsible for designing, optimizing, and supporting automated control systems across extrusion and downstream equipment to drive uptime, performance, and product quality.
Responsibilities
- Develop, program, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and control architectures for extrusion and downstream lines
- Enhance automation across production routes to maximize uptime, throughput, and product quality
- Identify and fix electrical and control-system faults to minimize downtime
- Lead and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, efficiency, and productivity
- Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to optimize operational performance
- Own and support capital projects from concept through implementation
- Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and commissioning across multiple facilities
- Analyze production data to detect trends and implement process improvements
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including schematics and standard operating procedures
- Provide training and technical guidance to operations and maintenance personnel
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years of industrial automation experience in a manufacturing environment
- Hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs and Codesys platforms
- Proficiency with HMI and SCADA systems
- Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical and control systems
- Knowledge of sensors, drives, motion control, vision systems, and industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Profibus)
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings

Location

Compensation
- Salary: $100,000 to $110,000 per year, with pay aligned to geographic location and candidate experience
