Controls Engineer
Job Description
JT Automation Inc. invites applications for a Controls Engineer to design and implement control systems for industrial machinery. The role encompasses hardware selection, schematic development, fabrication of control electronics, and the creation of machine code and user interfaces for PLC and PC based systems. This onsite position is based in Windsor, CT, with a yearly salary range of USD 90,000 to 120,000. The ideal candidate will bring at least five years of relevant experience and hold a bachelor’s degree.
Responsibilities
- Collaborates with mechanical and process engineers and with customers to determine control system and machine requirements.
- Chooses appropriate controls hardware within constraints of cost, capability, and customer needs.
- Produces a complete control system schematic using SolidWorks Electrical.
- Develops, tests, and debugs industrial control software across languages such as Ladder Logic, VB.NET, and C#, along with hardware-specific languages like Aero Basic.
- Modifies existing software after reviewing new requirements in light of current hardware, electronics, and software.
- Designs and develops functional user interfaces using VB.NET, C#, or dedicated UI hardware and software, including Siemens and Allen Bradley platforms.
- Documents all code for future review and revision.
- Collaborates with engineers and writers to prepare customer-ready documentation of software features.
- Interfaces with hardware original equipment manufacturers to integrate their application program interfaces.
- Assists mechanical and electrical engineers with control system development issues.
- Provides training and support to customers, either one-on-one or in groups.
- Assists with the fabrication of control panels and enclosures.
- Develops machine vision programs and strategies.
- Supports mechanical assembly as needed.
- Develops desktop software when off-the-shelf solutions do not exist.
- Creates plug-ins and interfaces to enable communication with minimally supported hardware.
Requirements
- Proficiency in programming across multiple languages, including VB.NET and Ladder Logic.
- Experience with control system development on Siemens PLC platforms.
- Ability to design and program effective and ergonomic user interfaces.
- Strong communication skills with colleagues, production workers, customers, and vendors.
- Highly motivated to adapt to multidisciplinary challenges.
- Self-sufficient and capable of working with general supervision.
- Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science, controls engineering, robotics engineering, or equivalent.
