Data Engineer
Job Description
The data engineer is a remote role focused on healthcare claims data, responsible for SQL driven data management, quality assurance, and integration. The position involves designing scalable data architectures and collaborating with product, analytics, and engineering teams to support both new and existing applications.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and execute complex SQL queries for data management and validation.
- Demonstrate subject matter expertise in data mapping, transformations, validations, and ingestion workflows.
- Monitor data pipelines to ensure quality, consistency, and reliability across workflows.
- Design and implement scalable, secure data architectures to support multiple applications.
- Configure production solutions and services as needed to maintain operations.
- Act as a change agent by identifying opportunities for improvement and recommending process enhancements.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams including product owners, analysts, and software engineers.
- Create and maintain standard operating procedures documentation.
- Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and architectural discussions.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in data engineering.
- Attend meetings with clients or stakeholders to align on requirements and progress.
- Complete assigned tasks and respond to requests within established timelines.
- Provide after hours or weekend support as needed and demonstrate the ability to work independently.
- Adhere to industry and organizational compliance rules to maintain data integrity.
- Use department ticketing and productivity systems to manage tasks within deadlines.
- Align with organizational and individual goals as identified in performance reviews.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience.
- 8+ years of experience in data engineering or a related role.
- 8+ years of data analysis experience, preferably within healthcare domains such as enrollment, medical claims, or pharmacy claims.
- 8+ years of hands-on SQL and PL/SQL experience.
- Experience designing, implementing, and optimizing data models in NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, Neo4j) to support high volume, low latency workloads.
- Working knowledge of big data and cloud technologies (Databricks, AWS, Azure, Hadoop, Spark, Snowflake) is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience with project management tools such as JIRA.
- Solid understanding of agile development practices, preferably SAFe.
- Strong analytical abilities with excellent verbal, listening, and written communication skills.
