Job Description
The Data Engineer position supports the United States Space Force by designing, developing, testing, and deploying defensive cyber capabilities through data-driven initiatives. The role centers on evaluating data infrastructure to shape a comprehensive data strategy, establishing plans for data collection, storage, and analysis, and ensuring cross-functional collaboration to meet mission needs.

Responsibilities
- Assess existing data infrastructure, landscape, and security posture to define a data strategy roadmap.
- Develop an executable action plan in a Microsoft tool for the US Space Force.
- Create and maintain an action plan for data collection, storage, and analysis.
- Promote cross-functional collaboration by partnering with the Data Strategist to support data infrastructure and mission needs.
Requirements
- Education and experience: BS with 8+ years of relevant experience or MS with 6–10 years of relevant experience; additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum experience: 6 years of relevant work experience.
- Understanding of Data Security and access controls in accordance with DoD and Air Force Data Strategy policies and procedures.
- Experience designing and maintaining data architecture, models, schemas, and data warehouses.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI, with experience creating executive-level operational reports and briefings.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with senior leaders.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work in depth with data.
- Understanding of organizational data governance.
- Understanding of the DoD and Air Force Data Strategy policies and procedures.
- General understanding of data analytics.
- Strong understanding of the data lifecycle and the layers required to process data from ingestion to visualization.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Grafana, Apache Superset, Tableau, and Power BI.
