Data Engineer

The Data Engineer will support Tesla’s Data Center Manufacturing Quality Team in Houston with onsite Quality Engineering initiatives. The role focuses on automation of production controls, building and maintaining data pipelines and databases, defect prediction using statistics, and delivery of live visualization tools to strengthen quality assurance.

Responsibilities

• Define requirements and validate manufacturing execution systems to support manufacturing operations.
• Analyze manufacturing, equipment, and product field data to extract statistics and actionable insights about failures that drive improvements in production quality and customer experience.
• Collaborate with Engineers to complete end-to-end analyses, from gathering data requirements through data processing and modeling.
• Monitor key product metrics and determine root causes behind changes in performance.
• Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques, and provide ongoing reports.
• Identify and communicate trends or patterns across complex datasets, presenting findings through dashboards and reports.
• Maintain existing data visualizations and data pipelines, and support dashboard enhancement requests.
• Acquire data from primary and secondary sources and maintain databases and data systems to enable operational and exploratory analysis.
• Perform data quality validations to ensure data creation aligns with business needs and expectations.

Requirements

• Degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Extensive experience writing software with Python.
• Experience with multiple data architecture paradigms (e.g., SQL, NoSQL, Kafka, Spark).
• Experience and interest in frontend development, preferably with JavaScript and React.
• Knowledge of data communication protocols (e.g., REST API, WebSocket).
• Ability to work under pressure while collaborating and managing competing demands with tight deadlines.
