Data Engineer

EKASYS INC seeks a Data Engineer to design and operate data infrastructure and ETL capabilities for a mission-critical modernization effort.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain ETL and data pipelines using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) or comparable tools for legacy data migration.
• Define and document source-to-target mappings, transformation rules, validation logic, and data migration procedures.
• Partner with SMEs and stakeholders to confirm data mappings, business rules, and results for migrated datasets.
• Create and maintain scalable data architectures, database schemas, Data Dictionaries, and Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs).
• Run and monitor ETL processes to ensure data quality, integrity, completeness, and traceability.
• Optimize Microsoft SQL Server schemas, queries, indexes, and data workflows to support application and reporting performance.
• Design and support data interfaces and integrations with internal and external systems, including APIs and enterprise data sources.
• Ensure database and data migration work aligns with data governance, security, and API standards.
• Support CI/CD and automated data-layer testing, maintaining traceability between data activities and relevant user stories.
• Troubleshoot data migration, transformation, integration, and database performance issues.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, standups, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Maintain clear technical documentation covering data architecture, transformations, migration activities, validation results, and data interfaces.

Requirements

• Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in data engineering, ETL, database, or data migration.
• Experience building ETL pipelines using SSIS or comparable tools.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server, including database/schema design, query optimization, and index tuning.
• Proven experience with enterprise data migration, including source-to-target mapping, transformation, validation, and data quality.
• Experience designing data architectures for transactional and/or analytical workloads.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Background Investigation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field from an accredited institution.
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate or comparable certification.
• Experience with federal data governance frameworks and NIST SP 800-53 / FedRAMP environments.
• Experience with REST APIs, JSON, XML, and CSV integrations.
• Experience supporting federal law enforcement, case management, or other government systems.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum and Digital.ai or similar tools.
• Experience with GIS data formats and ESRI technologies, or i2 Analyst’s Notebook.
