Job Description
VISUAL SOFT, INC is seeking a Data Engineer (Senior/Mid-Level) to support secure, mission-critical data operations within a classified cloud infrastructure. This role is fully onsite in Huntsville, Alabama and requires an active Top Secret clearance.
Role overview
You will build and sustain data pipelines and integration workflows that handle both structured and unstructured datasets, working across on-premises systems and AWS cloud services. The position also involves participating in Agile/Scrum execution, including design input, code review, testing, and documentation.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain ETL workflows for large-scale structured and unstructured datasets.
- Create data migration solutions between legacy and modern systems using SQL, Java, and cloud-native tools.
- Implement data integration frameworks using AWS services including Glue, Lambda, S3, RDS, Redshift, and Kinesis.
- Develop automation scripts using Python, Shell, or Bash for deployment, data validation, and maintenance.
- Maintain and enhance data pipelines for real-time and batch processing.
- Support data quality efforts, including metadata management and governance activities.
- Contribute to Agile/Scrum sprints through design work, code reviews, testing, and documentation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues across on-premises and AWS environments.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years (Mid) or 8+ years (Senior) of experience in data engineering or database development.
- Strong hands-on ETL experience using tools such as Informatica, Talend, Pentaho, AWS Glue, or custom Java ETL frameworks.
- Proficiency in SQL and experience with at least one major RDBMS, including Oracle or PostgreSQL.
- Experience with data migration projects and data quality validation.
- Proficiency in Java or Python for data processing and automation.
- Experience with cloud technologies, preferably AWS (RDS, S3, Lambda, Redshift, Glue).
- Working knowledge of Linux/Unix and shell scripting.
- Experience in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
