Job Description

This remote, contract software engineering role with AfterQuery Experts supports asynchronous project work over 2 to 3 weeks. The engagement is designed for candidates with 1 to 3 years of experience who can deliver clean, tested code and collaborate on technical decisions.

Role Overview

Work remotely from Basking Ridge, NJ on a project-based engagement. Time commitment is typically 10–20 hours per week, coordinated asynchronously across a 2–3 week window.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and ship clean, well-tested code across a variety of projects and technology stacks
  • Debug, refactor, and optimize existing codebases to improve performance, maintainability, and scalability
  • Participate in code reviews, contributing constructive feedback and applying input where needed
  • Collaborate asynchronously on technical specifications, architecture decisions, and implementation plans
  • Document code, APIs, and technical approaches clearly in a reproducible manner

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of professional software engineering experience in a full-time role or equivalent
  • Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language and its ecosystem
  • Proven ability to scope, implement, and deliver software features or fixes independently
  • Solid understanding of fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and system design
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)

  • Background contributing to open source or building personal software projects independently
