Data Engineer - Analytics Platforms

Onsite in Herndon, Virginia, this Data Engineer opportunity at Peraton Labs supports the FAA BNATCS program by designing and implementing data pipelines, transformations, and data-backed components for analytics and evolving agentic AI workflows. The role is hands-on and cross-disciplinary, spanning data sources, backend services, and data-driven applications to deliver scalable, mission-ready solutions. The compensation range for this position is USD 86,000 to 138,000 per year.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines, transformations, integrations, and supporting application logic for the Digital Command Center
• Build data‑driven components powering dashboards, analytics products, visualization layers, and internal decision‑support tools
• Write production‑quality code to ingest, process, transform, and expose data for downstream use
• Collaborate with data, systems, operations, and visualization stakeholders to translate requirements into practical technical solutions
• Support integration of multiple structured and semi‑structured data sources as program needs evolve
• Develop and refine backend logic, APIs, scripts, or services that enable analytics and user‑facing data products
• Operationalize data flows and application functionality to support internal Agentic AI tools and workflows
• Contribute to robust, maintainable technical solutions rather than one‑off analysis artifacts
• Identify performance bottlenecks, data quality issues, integration gaps, and technical constraints affecting delivery
• Work closely with architects, data leads, and software teams to ensure scalable, supportable solutions aligned with broader platform goals
• Support rapid iteration in a dynamic environment where requirements and use cases continue to evolve

Requirements

• Educational background includes a BS with 5+ years of experience, an MS with 3+ years, or a PhD in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field
• Strong hands‑on development experience with Python
• Solid SQL experience and work with relational and/or analytical data stores
• Experience building data pipelines, transformation workflows, backend data services, or data‑driven applications
• Experience with Agentic AI systems, autonomous workflows, MCP and system tools, LLM‑enabled applications, or intelligent orchestration environments
• Proven ability to write code and develop technical solutions in production, prototype, or mission‑support environments
• Experience integrating data from multiple sources for downstream analytics, dashboards, or application use
• Experience with cloud environments, containerization, and deployment tooling such as Docker, Kubernetes, or Terraform
• Ability to work at the intersection of technical implementation and business or mission needs
• Strong analytical thinking, problem‑solving ability, and attention to detail
• US Citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain FAA Public Trust suitability
