Responsibilities
- Collaborate with technical peers to document and finalize data requirements
- Develop efficient, reusable code that follows best practices such as naming conventions and encapsulation
- Draft and review specifications for data components
- Investigate and fix data engineering issues, identifying root causes
- Identify opportunities to automate processes or use tools to improve effectiveness
- Translate product requirements into data engineering and data management designs with the team
- Drive process improvements to enable efficient delivery and maintenance
- Contribute to development processes, coding standards, and code reviews
- Oversee database management to ensure structure and data flow align with standards
- Utilize data workflow management and analysis tools
- Maintain deep knowledge in a specific data content area
- Support process improvements and compliance to deliver high-quality services on time and to specification, adapting to priority changes
- Resolve simple data engineering bugs and issues as needed
- Collaborate with teammates to understand data and translate requirements
- Operate in multiple development environments (such as Agile) with key stakeholders
- Stay current with new technology developments
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; Engineering or Computer Science preferred but not mandatory, or equivalent experience
- Hands-on experience with Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks, or Hadoop environments
- Minimum of 3 years developing Python-based Spark code for large-scale data processing
- Solid understanding of Big Data concepts, distributed computing, and data lake medallion architecture
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams
- Proficiency in Python for data engineering, ETL, and automation tasks
- Working knowledge of Azure services including Data Factory or Synapse Pipelines, Data Lake Storage, and Key Vault/Secrets Management
- Strong SQL writing abilities
- Experience on both Linux and Windows for development and deployment
- Solid knowledge of Git and Azure DevOps (Repos, Pipelines)
- Experience deploying code to higher environments using CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices in Azure
- Ability to troubleshoot, optimize, and monitor production data pipelines
- Exposure to data warehouses such as AWS Redshift, Azure Dedicated SQL Pool, and Netezza
- Familiarity with data security, governance, and compliance in cloud environments
- Exposure to monitoring and logging frameworks for data workloads
- Exposure to Microsoft Fabric
- Knowledge of industry best practices such as code coverage
- Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies
- Strong documentation skills, attention to detail, and effective written and verbal communication
