Job Description
Merck is seeking a Director of Cybersecurity Engineering to lead an enterprise Zero Trust program, with responsibility for strategy, architecture, implementation, and ongoing operations. This role will manage a U.S.-based Zero Trust engineering team and oversee a Zscaler-based SASE platform deployment, including continuous improvement.

Role Summary
As Director of Zero Trust Infrastructure Security, you will lead the design, deployment, integration, and operational enhancement of an enterprise Zero Trust security program. You will also oversee Zscaler-based SASE platform deployment and continuous refinement to support secure access for users, applications, and workloads.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, deployment, integration, maintenance, and continuous enhancement of a Zscaler-based SASE platform to enable secure access for users, applications, and workloads.
- Partner with infrastructure, networking, cloud, cybersecurity, application teams, and other business groups to implement Zero Trust principles and network security solutions across enterprise systems and platforms.
- Oversee implementation, configuration, monitoring, detection, and response for security technologies to maintain operational excellence and a strong security posture.
- Set Zero Trust engineering standards, mentor and develop team members, and identify ways to use AI-driven capabilities to improve threat detection, automation, security analytics, and operational efficiency.
- Stay current with progress in Zero Trust, cloud security, network security, AI security, and emerging technologies to assess and adopt solutions aligned with the security strategy.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field is required.
- Experience: Minimum 10+ years in Information Technology.
- Zero Trust: 5+ years designing, implementing, and managing Zero Trust and Zscaler security initiatives.
- Zero Trust knowledge: Strong understanding of Zero Trust principles, methodologies, and technologies.
- Platform experience: Advanced hands-on experience designing, deploying, and operating Zscaler solutions in large-scale enterprise environments.
- Security architecture: Expertise in AI Security, network security, endpoint security, and cloud security architecture.
- Technical scope: Experience with firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDPS), network segmentation, and secure remote access technologies.
- Enterprise Zero Trust engineering: Extensive experience with Zscaler Internet Access (ZIA), Zscaler Private Access (ZPA), Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), cloud security, network transformation, and enterprise-scale Zero Trust programs.
- Leadership: Proven success leading high-performing Zero Trust engineering teams and guiding complex security transformations, supporting IT and security teams in implementing and operating Zero Trust principles.
- Certifications: Relevant industry certifications, including Zscaler certifications, CISSP, CIAM, or similar credentials, are highly desirable.
- Competencies: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to learn and apply emerging technologies, and excellent communication and collaboration capabilities.
