This onsite Electrical and Automation Engineer role is based in Auburn, WA with Seattle Safety. You will work in an engineered-to-order environment, collaborating across functions to bring complex electrical systems from concept to implementation on global projects.
Responsibilities
- Design and lay out control panels that span low voltage instrumentation up to high amperage 3‑phase motor control.
- Specify, source, and size components for electrical systems featuring PLCs, large VFDs, motors, servomotors, transducers, sensors, valve drivers, EtherCAT, and other motion systems.
- Develop, build, and proof test new research and development prototypes and products.
- Create, release, and maintain electrical schematics, drawings, and bills of materials using ePLAN.
- Program industrial automation equipment and PLCs, learn new programming languages as needed, and archive and maintain program code.
- Troubleshoot complex electrical assemblies with tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and EMI probes in controlled environments and at customer facilities worldwide.
- Collaborate with Project Management, Sales, Control Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Production, and Installation to ensure projects are on time and meet specifications.
- Communicate effectively with international customer engineering personnel to align on requirements and expectations.
- Revise and improve custom I/O boards with external designers and manufacturers.
- Provide hands-on guidance for the assembly and wiring of control panels and equipment for in-house technicians and onsite customers.
- Create and maintain documentation of standard work processes; lead the development of assembly instructions, processes, and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with electrical codes and regulatory requirements worldwide, supporting CE certification.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from a four-year college or university.
- Experience designing industrial automation and power distribution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with 3-phase systems, motors, and VFDs.
- Knowledge of US and International electrical codes, including NEC and IEC.
- Experience using AutoCAD, ePLAN or similar software for electrical schematics.
- Experience with EtherCAT or other fieldbus networking protocols.
- Experience with AC and DC power and control.
- Experience with programming languages such as C, C++, and LabVIEW.
- Knowledge of power electronics and analog/digital circuit design.
- Experience with safety PLCs and safety software.
