Job Description

Lodal is seeking an Electrical Engineer to design and develop custom magnetics components, with a focus on transformers, inductors, chokes, coils, and electromagnets. This onsite role in Winsted, CT connects engineering work directly to prototype evaluation and production execution, including collaboration with manufacturing to bring concepts into manufactured products.

The position also supports reverse engineering of legacy and obsolete magnetic components, combining electromagnetic design with practical engineering documentation and technical support throughout the product lifecycle. A BSEE and hands-on experience with magnetic components are central to success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design custom transformers, inductors, chokes, coils, electromagnets, and related magnetic assemblies.
  • Reverse engineer legacy and obsolete magnetic components.
  • Create electrical, thermal, and mechanical designs that are practical to manufacture.
  • Select magnetic cores, winding methods, conductor types, insulation systems, and materials.
  • Build prototypes and evaluate product performance.
  • Develop test procedures and analyze electrical performance.
  • Partner with machinists, winding technicians, and production personnel to move products from concept into manufacturing.
  • Produce engineering drawings, Bills of Materials, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Provide technical support to customers and manufacturing throughout the product lifecycle.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent industry experience.
  • 3+ years designing magnetic components, transformers, coils, inductors, or related electrical products.
  • Strong understanding of electromagnetic principles and magnetic circuit design.
  • Experience creating engineering documentation and supporting manufacturing.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Experience (Plus)

  • Custom transformers, toroidal transformers, control transformers, current transformers, pulse transformers
  • Inductors, chokes, air-core coils, electromagnets, solenoids, RF coils
  • Magnetic assemblies, power electronics, reverse engineering
  • Wire harnesses, electromechanical assemblies, prototype development, manufacturing process improvement
