Electrical Engineer II - Relay

KAMO Power Cooperative is seeking an Electrical Engineer II – Relay for an exempt, full-time position based at its headquarters in Vinita, Oklahoma. In this onsite role, you will apply engineering techniques to substation relaying and metering design, support system protection efforts, and help maintain compliance with applicable reliability standards with moderate supervision.

Role Summary

This position focuses on protective relaying and metering design work, including relay settings, technical documentation, and analysis of events and system disturbances. You will partner across operations, engineering, and field personnel while contributing to protection & control projects and ongoing system planning and upgrades.

Responsibilities

• With moderate supervision, develop accurate Substation Relaying and Metering design deliverables, including drawings, specifications, and material lists
• Perform relay settings calculations, coordination studies, and fault analysis
• Prepare and review relay settings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and related technical documentation
• Support commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of protective relaying equipment
• Analyze system disturbances and outages, then recommend corrective actions
• Coordinate with operations, engineering, and field personnel on relay-related projects
• Ensure compliance with NERC, IEEE, and applicable industry standards
• Provide technical guidance and support to engineers and technicians
• Assist with system planning, upgrades, and protection & control capital projects

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, or a related field
• 3 to 5 years of experience in protective relaying or power system engineering
• Working knowledge of protective relays and relay coordination principles
• Working knowledge of fault analysis and power system protection methods
• Working knowledge of relay platforms such as SEL, GE, ABB, Siemens, or similar
• Working knowledge of one-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one preferred
• Experience with transmission and distribution systems, SCADA, and NERC compliance preferred

Location and Work Setup

Work location is in person at KAMO Power Headquarters in Vinita, Oklahoma. Preferred commute and relocation location is Vinita, OK 74301, with relocation available before starting work.
