Electrical Project Engineer - Substation QA/QC
Job Description
Black & Veatch, an employee-owned leader in sustainable infrastructure, invites applications for an Electrical Project Engineer focused on Substation QA/QC in Denver with a hybrid work arrangement. This role sits within the Substation Quality Management Group, guiding standards, preparing deliverables, and coordinating across design teams to ensure rigorous quality in substation design packages.
Responsibilities
- Function as a quality control / quality assurance engineer within the Substation Quality Management Group (QMG).
- Perform QA/QC of substation design packages, including physical design and protective relaying/control, with an emphasis on continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with the substation design team and provide guidance on design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes, and BV policies.
- Continuously develop knowledge and may provide direction to others on design guides and quality practices.
- Provide technical guidance to project teams and ensure adherence to the BV quality program for assigned tasks.
- Independently apply advanced engineering techniques and manage tasks within quality requirements and budgets.
- May oversee data collection, assimilation, and management for engineering work and prepare engineering calculations using standard methods.
- Prepare and manage assigned budgets, schedules, and quality requirements; delegate appropriate tasks to lower level staff and review their work.
- Lead production teams or coordinate multi-discipline activity; serve as the responsible charge for a project when required.
- Coordinate with internal and external team members on moderately complex projects and convey client interests to the project team.
- Support business development or client pursuits and offer specialist technical guidance to project teams.
- Foster knowledge management and mentoring; participate in resource planning and learning and development activities.
- Contribute to policy implementation and process communication for the work group; approve timesheets and expense reports as applicable.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited program.
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
- Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, including potential background checks, drug screens, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

The Opportunity
Function as a quality control / quality assurance engineer within the Substation Quality Management Group, performing QA/QC of substation design packages (physical design and protection & controls) with an emphasis on continuous improvement, and collaborating with the substation design team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Substation QA/QC Reviews – Quality Assurance / Quality Checks
- Substation design experience – Physical and/or Protection & Controls
- Experience coordinating and communicating with clients, multidisciplinary leads, and project managers
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
- Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
Minimum Qualifications

Work Environment / Physical Demands
