Job Description
Entergy Corporation invites a Senior Engineer II to join the Transmission Design Basis Department in New Orleans, onsite. This role provides technical leadership, drives standards development, and offers engineering guidance for Transmission Line assets. You will collaborate with design, asset management, construction, procurement, vendors, and field personnel to establish line standards, design basis documents, templates, and construction guidance that support safe, reliable, and cost effective transmission line infrastructure.
This position is based on site in New Orleans, Louisiana and offers the opportunity to influence critical infrastructure while working closely with cross functional teams. You will engage with technical consortia, research groups, and universities to advance transmission line engineering and standards development, and you will participate in change-management discussions to share lessons learned from design and construction activities. A commitment to safety and a culture of continuous improvement are central to the role, with guidance to follow Entergy safety policies and procedures in all activities. Storm, outage, and emergency restoration support is part of the role as needed.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze transmission line standards issues identified by engineering teams, construction, and field operations.
- Recommend solutions and lead cross functional teams to update line design standards, structure libraries, plan and profile documentation, and material specifications.
- Develop subject matter expertise on transmission line standard drawings, loading criteria, PLS-CADD structure libraries, conductor and OPGW specifications, and application philosophies.
- Create and revise standard documents, catalog IDs, stock codes, and standard drawings specifically for transmission line assets.
- Review vendor drawings and technical specifications for structures, foundations, conductor systems, hardware, and other line components.
- Maintain the Transmission Design Basis SharePoint site and ensure current versions of line standards, guidance documents, and engineering directives are available.
- Apply engineering principles, industry standards (ASCE, NESC, IEEE), and internal design practices to develop high quality, cost effective line design guidance.
- Support engineering design, construction, and maintenance activities by providing technical interpretation of design basis documents and standards.
- Support compliance activities related to industry standards and reliability organizations (NERC, SERC) where line assets are involved.
- Participate in and support technical consortia, research groups, and universities on topics relevant to transmission line engineering and standards development.
- Conduct change-management sessions for stakeholders on updates to line standards or lessons learned from design and construction activities.
- Assist with storm and emergency restoration by providing engineering support as necessary.
- Travel up to 25 percent as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution. Degrees in engineering technology may be considered with PE.
- Engineer II requires at least 2 years of engineering experience; Engineer III requires at least 4 years; Senior Engineer requires at least 6 years.
- Ability to apply engineering and design principles with a solid understanding of construction methods, project management techniques, and various engineering design applications.
- Mastery of relevant processes and policies and strong design skills; consistently good judgment.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Basic theory of electricity and a solid understanding of transmission line engineering principles, including line loading, clearances, structure analysis, and conductor behavior.
- Ability to interpret line plan and profile drawings, structure drawings, and construction packages.
- Ability to manage multiple activities, adapt to changing priorities, and work well under pressure.
- Self motivated, dependable team player with good mathematical skills.
