Engineer IV
Job Description
Engie North America is seeking an experienced Engineer IV to lead and sustain critical control systems across its utility and power generation assets, with a specific focus on the CHP plant at The Ohio State University. This on-site role in Columbus, Ohio combines hands-on troubleshooting, commissioning, and long-term reliability planning with on-call responsibilities and collaboration across operations, IT/OT, and external vendors.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operation, maintenance, and fault diagnosis of control systems across CHP and utility assets
- Maintain and optimize Rockwell PlantPAx DCS, Allen-Bradley PLCs, and FactoryTalk software
- Troubleshoot issues related to PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, and field instrumentation
- Assist with commissioning, startup, and system integration activities
- Care for historian systems such as eDNA and AVEVA PI, ensuring data integrity and reliable interfaces
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, IT/OT teams, and third-party vendors
- Support industrial network infrastructure including switches, firewalls, and protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, OPC)
- Ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards and ENGIE OT policies
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including control narratives, network diagrams, and configurations
- Identify and implement system improvements to enhance reliability and performance
Requirements
- On-site attendance required daily at the Columbus facility
- Domestic travel up to 10% of the time
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and may require support outside normal business hours
- Valid U.S. driver’s license; may operate a company vehicle
- Commitment to ENGIE ethics and safety policies
- Approximately 20% outdoor work with exposure to weather conditions
- Proven ability to independently troubleshoot and lead complex controls issues
- Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs and FactoryTalk suite
- Experience with Rockwell PlantPAx or equivalent (PCS7, Ovation)
- Background in power generation, utilities, or mission-critical industrial environments
- Understanding of industrial networking and OT systems
- Experience with historian platforms such as eDNA and AVEVA PI
- Familiarity with industrial cybersecurity practices
- Ability to work in industrial plant environments (heat, noise, confined spaces) and to climb ladders
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
